There seems to be a shortage of good news these days. We are constantly bombarded with negative images and words in the media. Skimming through the newspaper and watching the nightly news, we are constantly hearing about record job losses, mortgage foreclosures, and major corporations filing for bankruptcy. Maybe you have been laid off yourself. Maybe you’re one of the millions of people struggling to pay their monthly mortgage.
What are we to do? How are we to interpret all of this? Is there a way to use the power of positive thinking, positive imagery, and self hypnosis to turn all of this negativity into something we can utilize, as a motivating force to help us get out of our slump and rise above the recession?
I’ve been pondering this question lately, so I decided to put my curiosity to good use and see what I could come up with. Last year The Wall Street Journal published an article titled “More People Use Hypnosis to Deal With Financial-Market Stress”:
Hypnosis has been used for years to help clients quit smoking, lose weight or sleep better. But recently there has been a surge of business from people who want help dealing with the stress of market turmoil, according to Dwight Damon, president of the National Guild of Hypnotists.

With hypnosis, the therapist uses calming tones and sometimes music to put clients in a deeply relaxed state. Clients are then given suggestions and recommendations on how to change their behavior, adjust their thinking and reach their goals.
It seems to me like hypnosis would be a great way to find a solution to our financial woes. I am not suggesting spending thousands of dollars on a hypnotherapist, however. I highly doubt that very many of us could afford to do so. A great alternative would be using self hypnosis audio to achieve the same results. And why not? It’s cheap, easy, and you can do it in the comfort of your own home.
Jacob Bimblich, a New York City hypnotist, knew that when the Dow Jones Industrial Average plummeted this fall, his business would go up. He first noticed the increase in financially fretful clients after a couple of laid-off workers from Bear, Stearns & Co., which collapsed in March and was acquired by J.P. Morgan Chase & Co., saw him this spring.

“I have no control over the financial markets,” Mr. Bimblich tells clients. “But I can help with how you look at them.” The number of clients coming in for financial problems has “increased tenfold” he says.
It would seem from this article that more and more people are turning to hypnosis in their time of need. Whatever actions you decide to take in regards to your finances, you are unlikely to have much success until you learn to condition yourself to think positively.
If you’re not properly motivated and approaching all of your endeavours with a level of optimism and inner tranquility, it becomes easier to succumb to the negativity and let the “bad news” of the ages leak into every corner of your life. Once you’re in a hole, you won’t be able to dig yourself out until you’ve truly convinced yourself that you want to get out, and that you deserve to get out, and that it’s perfectly natural for you to not be in the hole.
